This spring's big project at Bridgewood has been the log cabin in the Glade. I took some pictures of it in the glorious sunshine yesterday and you can also see how the trees and ground cover are now in leaf. The weekend before, mia and I had lunch in the cabin during a brief hail storm, and it's lovely to have a proper building there now rather than the tents and shelters we've relied on up to now.
The log cabin is a Scandanavian style one with squared off "logs". I've made heavy shutters that go over the windows when it's not in use, and I'm still sorting out the furniture inside: a dining table, sink, maybe a workbench for sharpening the chainsaw etc on site. I'm probably going to put in a wood-burning stove for heating and cooking too, and this will be great in the winter season (November to April) which is when most of the forestry work actually gets done.
I'm also reorganising the Glade so the picnic benches, fire pit, bin etc are on the same side as the log cabin. This will leave more room on the other side for visitors who bring tents, or for people wanting to use long singletails, do pony dressage, or anything else needing lots of open space.
