The Cage Pit is located on the edge of the Glade near
the picnic tables area. These two pictures show its exterior with the
roofing-felt cover removed for the day, and the interior including the
lockable iron grill. The usable space inside is about 3ft deep, with
about half of that below ground level, and the earth banked up now almost
to the top of its walls. The wooden floor and walls are treated with
preservatives to resist rotting.
As the walls are a few inches higher than the metal grill, captives inside
cannot see what's happening out in the Glade. At a squeeze, it's probably big
enough for four captives, one in each corner with their heads bowed by the
grill.
