Bridgewood pictures

See also the Bridgewood weblog posts for more about the wood. These pictures are sorted in date order so you can see how the site has progressed.

Whipping-frame, picnic tables, and camp fireWhipping-frame, picnic tables, and camp fire (27 Jul 09)
Camp-fire of seasoned hazel logs in the Glade, near the picnic tables and a tripod made of freshly cut hazel poles.

Hazel whipping frame and cuffsHazel whipping frame and cuffs (13 Jul 09)
Tripod in the Glade, made of freshly cut hazel poles with leather cuffs.

StreamStream (13 Jul 09)
A secluded spot on the bank of a boundary stream, under a sycamore tree. A good place to send someone down to draw water, as the stream never dries out even in high summer.

Hazel polesHazel poles (13 Jul 09)
Freshly cut hazel poles, stacked in front of the wood pile in the Glade.

The Five Fingered Hand treeThe Five Fingered Hand tree (13 Jul 09)
This is an ash tree on the north boundary, covered in ivy and shaped like a left hand with a thumb (on the left) and five fingers. In the picture, three of the fingers are clumped together just to the right of the "thumb". The palm forms a platform about five feet off the ground, and the fingers make it a good climbing tree as they lean over the stream.

Picnic tables in the GladePicnic tables in the Glade (15 Jun 09)
No more sitting on logs! (ok, and one of those fold up chairs they sell at motorway services....)

Surfaced stretch of the Middle RideSurfaced stretch of the Middle Ride (7 Jun 09)
As you can see, I've limited lines of sight with gentle curves in the rides. This looks nicer, it's more private, and it's better for woodland wildlife that dislikes big open spaces.

Digger bucket and tree stump regrowingDigger bucket and tree stump regrowing (7 Jun 09)
The bucket from a JCB during the clearing and surfacing of the parking / hard standing area. To the right you can see one of the tree stumps, right on the corner, and it's already started regrowing. In a couple of years time it will be a bush, and then a small tree with several trunks.

Part of the Middle RidePart of the Middle Ride (25 Mar 09)
I'm now working on clearing the start of the Middle Ride for vehicle access, especially in the area where there will be space to park, maybe keep a trailer, and store any equipment or materials coming or going from the site. As with the Glade, I'm cutting the trunks up into sections, using them to mark the edges, and stacking the smaller branches beyond them. This picture is also mentioned in this weblog post.
