17 Jan 09   Felling tree video
I made a short video of one of the trees I felled today, in this case using yellow plastic wedges hammered into the back cut to tip it over. I left a thicker hinge than usual because of the branch snagged in a fork, so it would come down slowly with the wedges rather than straight away after the chainsaw cuts. [more...]
14 Jan 09   The Glade Cleared, with a short video
I've now finished the work of clearing the Glade, which I talked about in this post last month, and I've put up a short video showing how it now looks from the centre. [more...]
7 Dec 08   Clearing the Glade and a wood mouse
I had a trip to Bridgewood today and cleared the branches and tree trunks scattered across the southern half of the Glade, left over from felling trees. I also came across a wood mouse, dodging between some of the logs and managed to photograph it. [more...]
17 Nov 08   Carts and rides
Writing a review of The Human Pony reminded me of the prototype cart I made at the start of the year, and yesterday I tried using it as a handcart for moving firewood logs across the jumble of branches left by felling. It worked surprisingly well when pushed and guided over obstacles. [more...]
12 Nov 08   My new avatar image
Apparently this image, which I'm using on my various profiles on websites and chat, is scary or even sinister! It's just meant to be personal whilst being anonymous, not a re-enactment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Honest 8-)
5 Nov 08   More Bridgewood plans, byelaws etc posted
I've rewritten the Bridgewood plans page this week. New material includes the first draft of the Byelaws, and a three-part written sketch of what an open day might look like. Both of these were mostly written in the summer, but I've tidied them up enough to post now. I've also put up expanded versions of the pages about Laying out Bridgewood, and the outline of events, open-days and D/s retreats. [more...]
29 Oct 08   Bridgewood photos and video
I've collected some recent pictures and made a short video, highlighting aspects of the work going on. This concentrates on the Glade and the felling of large trees ("standards") I've been doing there. [more...]
17 Oct 08   Autumn in Bridgewood
Autumn is an ill-defined season. Astronomically, and therefore on the BBC weather forecasts, it begins with the equinox about the 21st of September and finishes at the solstice in late December. But colloquially, summer lasts into August and winter is definitely here by November, and autumn fills in the gap. I used to think of all this in terms of dates and months, but now I've gone back to the old Anglo-Saxon derived "Fall of Leaf" rather than "Autumn" that we acquired from French. [more...]
18 Jun 08   Early summer in Bridgewood
I've not posted about the wood for a couple of months, but a fair bit has been happening. We've had several work trips and a couple of "social" trips with three or four of us, and the basic layout of the wood is starting to emerge via spade, bowsaw, axe and chainsaw. [more...]
7 Apr 08   Pheasants, Photos and Plans
I went to the wood on Saturday and did some more work laying out woodland tracks (rides) and taking some photographs of signs of spring. I've also written a page describing outline plans for the wood and where I'm going with it. [more...]
